It’s not always possible to decide to quit a 9 to 5 job; not straight away anyway. I quit more jobs than I can remember, but I was young and had zero responsibilities. For most people, it’s not so simple. Their 9 to 5 job is their stability. If you’ve found yourself trapped by a 9 to 5 that makes you miserable, you need to get a plan in place to escape 9 to 5!
Quit 9 to 5 Job
It’s not easy quitting your 9 to 5 job. It gets harder the longer you have had it, too. As you become accustomed to a regular income, you build your life around it. Over time, you get ingrained into your job and lifestyle. The last 9 to 5 job I quit, was working for a company writing articles all day – about parking and airports! I knew I couldn’t do it for long because I was juggling 3 jobs at the time! The boss wanted more and more out of me, and I was working on a few other businesses. See best non 9 to 5 jobs.
I knew I wanted to work for myself because I just hated working 9 to 5. Having a boss wasn’t very appealing either. But quitting the 9 to 5 was going to hit my income hard. All my other ‘gigs’ were pretty unsubstantial at the time. After 6 months I eventually quit my 9 to 5. I didn’t have a huge backup plan, but I had a few other income streams. This is something a boss never wants. A boss generally wants you to be super loyal to them, even if they will never will be to you!
This particular job was my first regular 9 to 5 for a while. I had had several other day jobs over the years, but I was working on a career in the film and television industry. My mind kept saying “quit 9 to 5 job“, despite me wanting the regular income. So I took the plunge and jumped.
Quit 9 to 5 Job – What Next?
I wouldn’t recommend jumping ship unless you’ve got somewhere to go. In my 20’s I was just lost and did it many times. I lived in an old, run down farm house in the country, relying on the benefits system for a few years. Judge if you will but at the time it kept me sane. I had zero direction. Years later, my 9 to 5 job had given me some purpose and stability. However, I knew I couldn’t get stuck in it because I wanted something else. After jumping ship I got offered a stunt job doing a bridge jump, which I wouldn’t do today. Back then, it seemed like a good idea – plus I needed the money!
But I knew I didn’t want a 9 to 5 long term so I saved every penny for the time I was there. I still lived below my means so I had the luxury of time, if it came to quitting. If I had relied on my 9 to 5 job, I would have felt more trapped. Living below your means is a good way to build a ‘buffer’ zone into your finances. Quit 9 To 5 Job
Another way to quit a 9 to 5 job is by building up a business around your existing income. Once your business is making money, you can see a way out. Juggling crazy dream jobs like bing a stuntman wasn’t working for me. With no financial stability for such a long time, it really affected me. I looked to the internet for a way out and eventually found a business system which is based on affiliate marketing.
An online business can be started from anywhere and built up around your existing employment. What’s great about an online business is that anyone can learn how to use the internet to make an income. It takes time and is no ‘magic bullet’, but it’s a skill well worth learning. Granted, you’ll need to work alongside your current job. That’s means giving some time to your business every day and your job. But over the long term, an online business can eventually replace existing income and you can quit the 9 to 5 job.
How Does It Work?
Affiliate marketing is a business model which lets you promote other people’s products over the internet. Because you can use automation and scale up to a global audience, there’s no limit to the amount of “income trickles” you can build. At first you need to learn a few new skills and it will take time to build up. But eventually, an online business has far more potential than any job in which you need to trade your time for money. Learning how to stop trading time for money is a skill well worth learning.
By sending website traffic to offers and services around the internet, anyone can earn a living while working a normal job. Using websites, landing pages, advertising strategies and email lists, affiliate marketers can automate online sales and earn commissions while they sleep! Once everything is set up and working, online businesses can be scaled up to an ever larger audience. Because of digital products and the ability to reach people on a global scale, anyone buying anything on the internet, can mean a commission for an affiliate marketer.
Affiliates ‘put’ themselves between the customer and the product. By using a unique affiliate link, sales can be tracked back to the person who referred a sale. You don’t need to be a sales person, and you can sell products you never actually own, handle or deliver yourself.
