What are the 9 to 5 job alternatives which anyone can do? I started looking for 9 to 5 job alternatives several years ago. I was working on and off and needed something to fit around work when it came up. 9 to 5’s didn’t suit me because I needed to drop work whenever a good stunt job came in. So I looked to the internet and at first started with ebay. Ebay offered a way to start selling my own things over the internet. I started here and quickly progressed to buying cheap items from car boot sales and charity shops and then selling them over ebay. I found a good product I could source from the pound shops too and sell them for 7 or 8 times what I paid.

Sadly I couldn’t get enough stock and ebay soon changes. What was once a hot seller quickly changes. I purchased an ebook on ebay itself which claimed to show how to build a profitable ebay business. Then, I went on to use this method to buy and sell both from ebay. Using a misspell search tool to purchase low priced items, I then sold them again with a better listing. Again this was a short lived enterprise because it really didn’t offer the ability to scale up or automate. All my time was being taken up by finding, listing and selling items. I had a room full of stock and was constantly answering questions from customers. It wasn’t working.

Even though I was effectively self employed and avoiding the 9 to 5, I wasn’t making enough to make it worth it. I didn’t have a boss or a commute but I wasn’t earning enough either.

I remembered buying the ebook from ebay. It seemed such a simple system. I could download it straight from the internet. This meant that anyone globally could also access it. This was a light bulb moment because I knew there was potential in this business model:

  • It was automated
  • There was the ability to make this business scalable
  • Access to a global audience
  • Flexible working hours
  • A portable business model

I didn’t know what I was doing but set about creating my own products and traying to sell them over the internet. I wasted a lot of time writing ebooks which never sold. Despite the disappointment, I persevered and eventually this led me to a business model known as affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing let’s anyone earn income from selling other people’s products. That means no products to create yourself. If only I had known earlier I would have saved a bunch of time and effort.

Alternative To 9 to 5 Job

As 9 to 5 job alternatives go, affiliate marketing seemed like the perfect solution. I could simply send website traffic through my affilaite links to other people’s products online and I didn’t need to deal with customers personally, deal with any products or even purchase products myself. I could simply refer customers and earn commissions. It was a totally portable income system too and I could work from anywhere. Unfortunately noone shared my enthusiasm for an online business. This lack of outside support led to a lot of confusion, frustration, procrastination and self doubt.

I worked hard at learning how to build websites, how to drive traffic and how to set up affiliate links and emails. Much of the hard work was in the learning. It is easy to get so caught up in learning mode that nothing actually gets done. Thankfully I later found a video series which changed everything for me. I found a training program and business system backed up by a community of business owners on hand to help. Again, this was after a long time of working away by myself and not really achieveing a great deal.

What led me to this community was the 7 day video series. The same one I share on my website here.

An Online Business – Alternative To 9 to 5 Job

As an alternative to 9 to 5 job, an internet business makes sense. However, like many businesses, you need to work at it over the long term to make any headway. What makes an online business system different to a job is the ability to stop trading time for money. You still need to spend time on it, but as you start generating results you will see that the automation makes your life so much easier. With a normal 9 to 5 job, you need to keep turning up for work again and again. There’s no escaping from this, even in a high paid job. You still need to work in order to make money. With an internet business you can build the business over time and let it run. As the systems start working you can scale up without having to continually work. It’s a much better way to earn money over the long run because of the ability to scale. You can’t scale your time, but you can scale the sale of digital products over the internet.
