Some people simply have no 9 to 5 mentality. If you question the 9 to 5 working mentality, perhaps you see yourself doing something else. If you have no 9 to 5 mentality, it could be that you want something a bit different from everyone else. I always questioned the 9 to 5 and so I looked for something else – a job or career I loved. But seeing things a little differently to most can make life pretty tough if you don’t know where you’re going or what exactly it is you want. The 9 to 5 mentality is a way to live by only doing what is necessary to hold down a job. If you want something more, you need to give something more.

If you have no 9 to 5 mentality, you might be entrepreneurial. Entrepreneurs think outside the box and look for opportunities which don’t mean handing over control to others. A normal job often allows you to do this. You work set hours for a set amount of money each month. The problem arises when you get bored of your job or when your job doesn’t pay you enough to live. The 9 to 5 mentality often goes hand-hand with the unwillingness to go the extra mile. It’s the herd mentality, so if you have no 9 to 5 mentality, it might be a good thing. Congratulations for thinking for yourself and wanting something more from life than a steady pay-check.

No 9 to 5 Mentality – Your ‘Tribe’

The other thing about working 9 to 5 is the people you meet on your journey. They’re not always very positive (in my limited experience of 9 to 5). If you’re surrounded by people who are limited in their thinking and ambition, it can be very demoralising, especially if you, yourself are wanting some better and bigger opportunitities. As Jim Rohn said: you are the average of the 5 people you spend most time with.

If you’re looking for something else from life, as someone who has no 9 to 5 mentality, you need to change those 5 people.

No 9 To 5 Mentality – Uninspiring Work

Looking to the internet several years ago for a means to earn a living, and with no 9 to 5 mentality; I thought I could do better just by doing things differently than most were. Plus I hated 9 to 5! I had several 9 to 5 jobs over the years but I hated the routine and most of the jobs I did work at were uninspiring because I left it very late to pick a career.

As a result I ended up working in jobs just for the money, not a good idea. If you’ve no interest in the work you are doing, and are doing it just to make money, it’s pretty bad really in my experience. Over time this is always a bad metric. Eventually you will end up despising your job, no matter how much you get paid! As you become accustomed to the income, you’ll likely earn what is known as the ‘golden handcuffs’. Golden handcuffs refer to a well paying job which you can’t afford to leave. No matter how miserable you are, you simply can’t turn the money away.

Anyway I digress.

Starting An Online Business

I worked much harder at building an internet business, than many would at their 9 to 5 jobs. And for a long time for no money too! I desperately didn’t want a 9 to 5 job so the thought of doing one motivated me forwards with an internet business. The idea of working for myself pushed me on, even when I wasn’t making any money from it. I tried many different ideas from Google Adsense to ebay to affiliate marketing. After a lot of mistakes and hundreds of websites, I still wasn’t getting anywhere. I later learned of a much simpler and straight forward method of building a sustainable internet based income. What Is An Online Business?

If you’re not a ‘follower’ and have no 9 to 5 mentality, you might have what it takes to build your own internet business. An internet business takes time and a lot of work to get going. However, it also offers a lot more than a 9 to 5 job ever could. If you don’t see yourself as working for someone else, having a boss or having to do set hours every day, an internet business might be the answer.

An online business allows a certain freedom and flexibility that isn’t possible in most other jobs. You can work from a laptop from anywhere, choose your own hours and sell products your don’t even own. It’s a business model called affilaite marketing. Affiliate marketing lets you sell other people’s products over the internet and earn a commission. What’s good is that you can build multiple methods of selling over time and scale up your business with very targeted advertising. With digital products (and some physical products too) you can sell globally. This makes your customer base much larger than for a locally based store. Anyone can learn the skills to do this too, regardless of age or experience.
